Supporting Family Businesses: Adoption of Green Transition Challenges for Building a Sustainable Economic Model of SMEs in Europe
Know-House is proud to be a part of the international project SUFABU!. The primary goal of this project is to empower family businesses in transitioning to more sustainable and economically efficient business models across Europe. Over the next 3 years, our international partnership consisting of 7 partners from 6 European countries focuses on strengthening the core competencies of family entrepreneurs who have already gone through succession and are now tackling green transformation or are engaged in intergenerational discussions about business management in this area.
Unlike large corporations and multinational companies, family businesses often have fewer opportunities and resources to initiate green transition activities and implement new sustainable solutions in their operations. Additionally, family businesses can face generational conflicts between owners and successors, which can hinder the long-term development of the company. To address these challenges, we create a comprehensive educational system that will assist family businesses in approaching green transformation effectively.

CraftAdapt: New Crafts Emerging

Secondary Waste Processing as a Reaction to the Market Change as well as a New Entrepreneurial Opportunity for Artisans from Disadvantaged Backgrounds
Our team has joined the international project CraftAdapt in order to help modernize vocational education training programmes in the crafts sector and align them with the evolving environmental and market demands of the EU. Together with partners from 5 European countries, we focus on equipping artisans—particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds—with the skills necessary for green transition, by combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative and sustainable practices. Focusing on the upcycling of plastic waste and other discarded materials, the project integrates circular economy principles to promote the creative reuse of waste resources.
The craft industry faces unique challenges in adapting to the demands of environmental sustainability and climate change. Artisans often lack access to updated curricula and training focused on innovative skills such as plastic upcycling or waste sourcing; essential for embracing circular economy principles. Furthermore, the integration of these skills requires a shift in both educational approaches as well as market mindset to ensure long-term viability. To address these challenges, CraftAdapt develops comprehensive learning materials that help equip artisans with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead the green transition.

VETdesign: Design Thinking for Quality VET Education Matching Labour Market Needs
As Design Thinking is part of our training methodology, the Know-House team has become a part of project called VETdesign! This project empowers VET providers to innovate their training and organizational practices through design thinking practices, enhancing the relevance, innovation, and attractiveness of VET across Europe. With a partnership of 5 European organizations, we equip educators, trainers and VET professionals with the tools and methodologies to develop engaging, relevant, and future-ready programs that prepare learners for success.
VETdesign aims to raise awareness about the importance of creativity and innovation in VET, provide practical training for educators and managers, and foster a dynamic community of VET actors. To achieve this, we develop comprehensive resources—including a Design Thinking Manual, an EDUCkathons Guide, and interactive workshops—that help integrate these elements into VET programs; making them learner-centred, market-relevant, and future-focused. Together, we help bridge the gap between traditional training and the needs of modern industries.
